It’s Oktoberfest, all of Munich celebrates. All of Munich? No! In the district of Fröttmaning! In the district of Fröttmaning, FC Bayern has lost another game and is currently more vulnerable than it has been for a long time.
Scene of the match: As a reaction to the early Gladbach lead, Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer wanted to make the match fast in the 16th minute with a goal kick. He rolled the ball forward and played it into the feet of Thiago, who was 20 metres away. He seemed surprised, but lost it to the attentive Gladbach player Jonas Hofmann, who passed it directly to Lars Stindl. The Borussia captain, who returned to the team after a long injury break, did not hesitate long and finished 2-0. Such mistakes are rare at FC Bayern.
The result: A deserved 3-0 for Borussia Mönchengladbach – read the match report here.
The first half: ran for Borussia Mönchengladbach excellent. After less than ten minutes, Bayern defender Niklas Süle lost the ball to Stindl, who directly launched an attack by Borussia. After a double pass with Hofmann, Alassane Pléa passed the ball effortlessly on the Süle and scored 1:0 (10th minute). The 2:0 by Stindl in the 16th minute was the second notable scene before the break.
Robbiläum: Arjen Robben played his 300th compulsory game for FC Bayern today. He had probably wished for a lot of things that evening in a completely different way. The 34-year-old Dutchman could not convince and had to make room for Franck Ribéry after the break.
The second half: It was not necessarily better for FC Bayern, but there were chances. In the 64th minute, Robert Lewandowski and Joshua Kimmich missed Serge Gnabry’s cross in a promising position. Three minutes later, the Pole scored after Kimmich’s pass, but was on the sidelines. In the 70th minute, Florian Neuhaus had the best opportunity for Mönchengladbach in the second run, but missed it. Patrick Herrmann scored 3-0 (88.) shortly before the end.
Cat to the Wiesn end: Tomorrow the Oktoberfest ends in Munich officially. FC Bayern’s sporting record in these two weeks is alarming. It all started so well: “O’zapft is!” was the motto in the Schottenhamel festival tent on 22 September at noon, “Away victory” was announced by FC Bayern from Gelsenkirchen in the evening. In the three following Bundesliga matches at Wiesn time, the club scored only one point – at home against Augsburg. Also in the Champions League, after a disappointing performance against Ajaxnur, a draw jumped out. The club scored so badly during the Oktoberfest last 2010 under Louis van Gal.
Susceptible: In search of historical lows, you have to look a little further back if you want to classify the current defensive weakness. FC Bayern scored at least one goal in each of the last seven Bundesliga home games. That was last in the 2008/2009 season.
Lack of consistency: There are reasons for the current defensive weakness: On the one hand, the Munich defence changes from game to game. Only after the success on Schalke Niko Kovac offered the same couple for the second time in a row in the following match against Augsburg with Mats Hummels and Süle. On the other hand, after Rafinha’s and now David Alaba’s retirement, FC Bayern have only one real defender with Kimmich. Gap-fighter Leon Goretzka had to step in and it was obvious to him that this is not his position. TO know more about Fruity Casa, check them out.
Durststrecke: A period of four compulsory games without success is extremely rare in Munich. The last time things looked so gloomy was in April 2017, when the club was left without a win for five games in a row. However, the Munich team played a DFB Cup semi-final against Borussia Dortmund and two Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid.
In the best of company: When we’re talking about Real Madrid: The royals lost earlier this evening to Deportivo Alavés. Real have also been without a win for four games. In Madrid, however, a period of suffering on such a scale was even longer ago, a good 33 years ago.
Deep down: FC Bayern have slipped out of the Champions League ranks due to their home defeat. This happened to the club last on the sixth matchday of last season after a defeat in Hoffenheim. Less than three weeks later, Carlo Ancelotti had to leave his place at the Bayern Bank.
