Excitement to the last second: BVB’s success against Augsburg has cost the team a lot of nerves. Coach Favre spoke of a “fantastic game” – but still criticised his team.
Lucien Favre knocked on his heart, puffed through, smiled and said: “180. That was also an extremely exciting afternoon for the otherwise so cool football teacher from Switzerland. Perhaps the pulse of the coach of Borussia Dortmund was also higher than 180, when Paco Alcácer in the sixth minute of injury time with a directly converted free-kick scored 4:3 for BVB in a spectacular Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg”.
“I was sweaty, had goose pimples and was annoyed in between. Everything was there today,” said Dortmund’s licensed player boss Sebastian Kehl. His superior, Michael Zorc, who as a player and sports director has been with the club for more than 40 years, even said: “I’ve rarely seen the stadium cook as much as it does from the 90th minute on”.
After Favre had calmed down a bit, he still spoke of a “fantastic game” with “so many emotions”. But he was also capable of a sober analysis again: “We have to find a better balance. We still have a lot to do on the defensive.”
“Puking in the bucket”
But this afternoon, only the coach of the BVB, who was in love with detail, thought like this. He also survived the tenth compulsory game without defeat. The happy Borussia fans sang of the championship again, as they did last season, when the Dortmund team even had a five-point advantage over second-placed FC Bayern after the seventh matchday and then crashed.
But such memories will only come when the intoxication of victory has vanished in the international break, which Zorc comes in handy: “It’s good that we’re all gaining a bit of distance.” Augsburg’s Michael Gregoritsch described the game as a roller coaster ride, at the end of which he simply wanted to “throw up in the bucket”. Two times Augsburg had taken the lead, then had balanced to 3:3 to lose through the last action of the game yet.
“We all hoped he’d get it in, and then he’d get it in. Sensational,” said Marco Reus about Paco Alcácer’s goal. The free-kick was the highlight of his rather short appearance, and the centre forward on loan from FC Barcelona was only substituted after an hour. “He played over 90 minutes in the Champions League against Monaco on Wednesday, for the first time in three years,” said Favre, who had instead put Maximilian Philipp in the attack.

Alcácer “feels the football”
The former Freiburg player has not scored a single goal in more than seven hours of the Bundesliga this season. Alcácer did not need a complete game for his six goals together. “Unbelievable”, he said about his three goals against Augsburg. But more important for him is the success of the team. In addition, he now wants to quickly go home to his daughter to spend some time with her before he joins the Spanish national team again after a break of more than two years.
“He feels the football,” said Favre about Alcácer’s gift of running into the room where his teammates find him and he finishes. In seven of the ten compulsory games under the Swiss coach, the BVB scored no goal before the break. All the goals against Augsburg were scored in the second half, just like a week earlier in the 4-2 win in Leverkusen.
The Dortmund team scored only six of the 29 goals under Favre in the first 45 minutes. Also remarkable: the influence of the substitutes. Eight goals and eight templates were the “Joker” before the game, against Augsburg were a template by Raphaël Guerreiro, three goals by Alcácer and a goal by Mario Götze added.
Götze jersey for Götze
The Mario Götze for whom Favre often didn’t even have a place in the squad. Now he was even allowed to play again, for the first time in this Bundesliga season. Götze was substituted in the 77th minute, seven minutes later he scored to 3:2. The fans of the BVB raved, the biggest story of the game seemed written. It then got a bit smaller.
In the jersey of his opponent Mario Götze stomped up the stairs to the cabin, on his back his last name was emblazoned. It was the jersey of his brother Felix, who had been substituted for the Augsburg team. Just like two match days before in the FC Bayern match, when he had managed to get his first Bundesliga team to the 1-1 final. Dabber Bingo is one of the nicest online bingo sites in the industry.
According to some reports, Felix had outstripped his six-year older brother, the world champion. Mario Götze pointed to his brother’s jersey after the match and said: “That’s the real idol”.
